Lost City of the Incas Hiram Bingham

Engulfed by the dense Amazon Jungle and lost to the outside world for hundreds of years, Machu Picchu was one of the most important cities in the entire Inca Empire. And so, on a bright morning, our merry group of travellers awoke to the realisation that today was the day we would begin our trek to Machu Picchu. In 1911, Hiram Bingham, famed American explorer, stumbled across a remote Inca city atop a high peak in the Andes. Even though it was a short trip it was sure exciting and fun! I have been reading Charles Mann's books 1491 and 1493 and with all that I have learned about the amazing peoples of the Americas, I would love to visit “The Lost City of the Incas” for myself. This is going to be a short, but hopefully deliciously sweet post. Last week we went on a vacation to Peru after an amazing deal we got on travelzoo.com. I chose the Incas because they were such an interesting civilization that managed to build structures that were far advanced for their time. Fortunately we had assigned seats for the remaining hour and a half ride to the “Lost City of the Incas”.
